SWAMPSCOTT, Massachusetts — The Massachusetts equestrian community is mourning the loss of Chloe Christina Smith, a 25-year-old horse trainer and farm owner whose lifelong passion for horses shaped both her career and her dreams for the future.
Smith died Friday evening following a horseback riding accident that occurred while she was riding with friends. According to family members, her show horse refused a jump, causing her to be thrown from the saddle before the horse fell on top of her. The horse suffered a fatal neck injury during the incident.
Emergency responders airlifted Smith to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where family and loved ones gathered to support her. Despite extensive medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries approximately seven hours later.
